Orchestra Model (OM/D) Guitar
|
 |
Not a "true" OM, my OM/D is a hybrid, a mix
of the better attributes of both the traditional Orchestra Model and
Dreadnought guitars. The design was the idea of Mr.
Bryan Kimsey, a Bluegrass style flatpicker frustrated by his
discomfort with the dreadnought size.
|
|
In the OM/D, we've pulled out the waist
area, and modified the upper bout to more reflect the lines of a
dreadnought, and to allow the guitar to sit higher when being played in
the sitting position. The results are a guitar that doesn't feel foreign
to those accustomed to Dreadnoughts, yet, since the body depth and lower
bouts are sized in the OM tradition, all the comfort expected of an OM
is not compromised. |
 |
 |
All OM/D models will feature wood
bindings (oak bindings are shown here, on the prototype). I insist on all
wood bindings for this model because I'm a strong believer that they
help the tone and power of a guitar by tying in the body more solidly
than plastic bindings will. |
|
The headstock has been kept small, and along with the
very high quality Waverly tuning machines, weight has been kept to a
minimum.
As is the case in all Proulx instruments, neck size
and shape is readily customizable to suit the individual owner's
preferences. |

Here, we
finally have the final version of the OM/D. This one has a Western Red
Cedar top combined with Mahogany back and sides. A great combination
that will scare just about any big bad dreadnought! |
| The
mahogany OM/D is turning out to be a great combination. Plenty
rich tone, very light in weight, and responsive enough for any style of
music. |
